It’s official!!

I have been accepted and submitted my deposit to Wild Carrot Herbs for the year long Beginning Herbal Apprenticeship!¬†Classes begin in September with the wonderful Mischa Schuler and I’m very excited. I had the opportunity to meet with Mischa last night and she’s just lovely; down-to-earth, intelligent, perceptive and full of heart.

When I was a child, starting around the age of 11 years old, I was extremely interested in working with herbs. I remember one time when my sister was visiting from college, she had a headache. I found in one of my many books on herbs a remedy that included putting certain seeds in a balloon and safety pinning it to a person’s clothing. I was probably around 14 or 15 at that point, but somehow had all of the ingredients necessary and concocted this treatment for my sister, which I was told DID help. Maybe she was being nice? Either way, my fascination with working with nature to assist our lives and healing has been long rooted.

As an adult, I have some basic knowledge of herbs and of working with them creating tinctures, balms and the like. My husband swears by one I make for stomach upsets and we use my homemade tick spray before embarking into the woods. I’m so excited to learn more and take it to the next level. I’m not sure how this will incorporate into my services yet, but I do believe that this deeper connection with the natural world will serve me deeply, both personally and professionally.

While I did take a beginning herbalist class while completing my minor of Holistic & Integrative Health at the University of Southern Maine, it has been about 6 years, and I wanted to be sure my foundation was solid before moving onto advanced trainings.

I’d love to hear from you! Have you successful used herbal treatments in your life?
